About Me
Hey! My name is Brooke, and I’m a Graphic Designer and Illustrator. I specialize in Branding, Packaging, and Print Design.
My Story
Over the past six years, my journey as a freelance graphic designer has evolved from an uncertain starting point into a confident and developing career. After graduating in 2019, I began working full-time in the real estate industry, producing signage and brochures in a fast-paced environment. When the pandemic led me to step away from that role, I turned my focus more seriously toward freelancing—what had once been a side pursuit quickly became a central part of my professional path.
I have primarily worked across branding, packaging, and print design, areas that allow me to combine both creativity and logical thinking. From early on, I was drawn to design because it sits at the intersection of these two strengths, offering both structure and creative expression.
My first role played a key part in shaping my approach to design. Working under tight deadlines strengthened my efficiency, attention to detail, and ability to produce consistent work. Soon after, I began taking on freelance projects, including a volunteer brochure and project proposal for the Baldivis Children’s Forest, an environmental education centre. This experience not only helped build my portfolio but also reinforced the value of contributing to meaningful, community-focused work.
In the early stages of freelancing, confidence and pricing were significant challenges. Learning to value my work and communicate that value clearly to clients took time and experience. Over the years, I have built confidence through consistent practice, client collaboration, and delivering successful outcomes.
My client base has largely consisted of small businesses and startups, alongside occasional larger-scale print projects. This range of work has allowed me to develop both technical and professional skills, including time management, adaptability, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. More recently, I have expanded my focus into branding, moving beyond visual execution and beginning to explore brand strategy, which has added greater depth to my work.
A defining moment in my freelance career was completing a large-scale brochure project for a local company while travelling through Vietnam. Managing the project remotely across time zones challenged me to become more organised and adaptable, while reinforcing the flexibility that freelancing can offer.
Like any long-term pursuit, freelancing has come with challenges. Developing an effective workflow and navigating time zone differences have both required ongoing adjustment. However, these experiences have helped me refine my process and strengthen my communication with clients.
Today, I approach my work with a much stronger sense of confidence and independence. I have shifted from relying heavily on client direction to guiding projects with a clear understanding of what will best meet the brief. This growth is reflected not only in my work, but also in the fact that clients are increasingly finding me, rather than the other way around.
Looking ahead, my goal is to establish a small remote design studio that allows for both creative collaboration and flexibility. I am committed to continuing to grow both creatively and strategically, building a career that is both sustainable and meaningful.
